Residents of Kongowea in Mombasa County were shocked when they found a man slaughtering a cat in what it was alleged to be used for making samosa. The 34 year old man was brutally beaten by members of public for engaging in unusual act, However, the suspect Raphael Mrefu Nyawe said that he was approached by a man who told him to kill the cat in exchange of sh 10. “I was approached by a man to slaughter this cat and he promised to pay me sh 10.I used a sharp glass to chop off the cats head” said Nyawe. A business man in the area Mr Eliud Mbuthia said that he was called by one of the residents informing him of man who was slaughtering a cat hiding behind Kongowea Market near rubbish pit” he said. Upon reaching the scene Mr Mbuthia was met by angry residents beating the man mercilessly. The resident alleged that the man who asked the suspect to slaughter the cat sells samosas in the neighborhood and was intending to use the cat’s meat to make samosas because cow’s meat was expensive. “We suspect this man must have been involved in this bizarre business for long however due to the days of a thief are numbered we have found him at last!” shouted Kimani Joshua. Adding, “There was once a man who used to come with a bicycle loaded with 6 boxes of meat and selling the meat to meat vendors in the area but the man is now jailed at Shimo la Tewa maximum prison after he was found in possession a cats skin in his home after thorough interrogation” said Mr Fakim Bakari a resident of the area. Tension has raised among the Kongowea residents saying that they may be eating cat or even dog meat wrapped up in the samosa. Mr Kimani says that it is not the first time for such an incident to happen many incidents have gone unreported. “It is upon us to take caution especially during this Holy month of Ramadhan, in order for us not to eat or dog meat mistaking it for goat or cow meat. People will be forced to find another alternative of finding food.” Mr Mbaruk added. Raphael was taken to custody at the District officer’s office in Kongowea.
