Workers at the Ashton Apparel (EPZ) Limited yesterday went on strike.
About 1000 workers in the cloth manufacturing company never attended to their duties sitting their strike to the increases mistreatment by the managing director Mr Patel.
Among the workers grievances include not being given their two months areas payment, mistreatment and harassment by the supervisors, not being provided with a good working environment, use of abusive language by the MD, no proper protocol taking in the hiring of the human resource personnel, poor medical care, the sucking of workers from work with no good reason behind it, and asking for permanent employment of workers on short contracts after four years of duty.
“We are tired of all these mistreatment; all we want is Patel to go back to his country of origin that’s when we will be satisfied said Abdhala Athman Ruwa the workers representative.
Another worker Catherine Mugoi said that their problems are not addressed in the right way there is long working hours but no payment is given to them, she added that they can no longer take it the production manager must go because he is taking all the authority of the human resource manager.
The nation group tried to locate Mr Patel who rubbished the claims saying they had had a meeting with the workers last Saturday and they worked out a solution to the workers grievances and refused to speak further.
“Going on strike is not a way of resolving any issue” said the financial controller Mr Pankaj Mehta.
The strike is to go on for the next 3days said Mr Abdhala Not until the General manager goes away.
