More than Sh25 million has been set aside to facilitate a street lighting project meant to ensure security for residents in the region and make Mombasa city a 24 hour Economy.

The project is facilitated by the chairman of Sharrif Nassir foundation Mr Abdulswamad.

In the official launch of the program yesterday Mr Abdulswamad said that it has been a long way coming and insecurity has been on the rise in the coastal region hence the need to install security lights for the business women and men who wake up very early to go to work.

“Mombasa Island will be shining with street lights once a project is put in place he said.

Among the areas that will benefit from this project include Majengo, Old town, Kizingo, Ganjoni, Tudor IV, Shimanzi, Tononoka, Mwembe Tayar, Mwangeni, King`orani and lastly Tudor estate.

“I kindly ask the Mayor of Mombasa to change the name of Mvita Clinic to Sharrif Nassir Clinic and a boundary wall will be built around the clinic in the aid of making the name of the late minister of Mvita Sharrif Nassir popular and giving him respect for the work that he did.”

The Mayor of Mombasa backed the point saying he will see to it that the name is changed and the council will also foot the bill of the street lights that will be installed.

The mayor congratulated Mr Abdulswamad who is also vying to be the governor of Mvita for the hard work that he has done in the constituency and he is one of the leaders that are needed to change the region to be a prosperous.
