Freedom
By Emmanuel Boaz.
After 20 years of serving as an inmate, Mr James Mulumbi finally got a taste of freedom from the king`orani prisons yesterday.
Mr James Mulumbi was arrested in 1984 in Kilifi County and charged with robbery with violence.
Mr Mulumbi was from Machakos and came to Mombasa to find a way to cater for his wife and two kids when he was arrested.
“He started his sentence at the Shimo la Tewa Maximum Prison before he was transferred to King`orani prison two years ago” said the chief officer 1 king`orani prison Mr Robert Basigwa.
Mulumbi has been a very obedient, respective and honest inmate. In my opinion Mulumbi had fully reformed to earn the trust of the police for the time he has been in King`orani prison.” Mr Basigwa added as he gave Sh 2000 as a sign of appreciation to Mulumbi.
Mulumbi`s teacher while in prison also showered him with praises saying that he will miss him while he is gone.
He went home with a toll box full of carpentry equipments as he had attained a grade one in carpentry and is was also good in tailoring both of which he had achieved while in prison.
“When I was jailed I never thought that a time like this will reach. I was praying and eagerly waiting for this day in order for me to get back to my family and friends.” Mulumbi said.
“I am ready to build the nation with my own sweat and also teach others the skills that I have gained and experience achieved. I would urge the other inmates I have left behind to follow my footsteps and they will emerge successful in life,” Mr Mulumbi concluded.
100 other inmates were also set free in the same prison facility due to the governments` fight to decongest the prisons in Kenya.
