The CEO of Safaricom Mr Bob Collimore officially flagged off the diabetic walk in Mombasa in order to build an insulin bank for children. “About 2 million Kenyans are affected by diabetes. Every ten seconds somebody dies from a diabetes case in Kenya. We want to raise awareness and funds to help children living with diabetes because it is a disease that can be managed. We also want the government to provide insulin for patients and a tax free treatment.” Collimore said. “We strongly believe people living with diabetes can live a perfectly normal life.” Mr Collimore added “It is a condition that we live in. once every month we have youth camps were we teach ourselves about diabetes and how to manage It. I would like to thank safaricom and Kenya diabetic information centre (EMI) for making life for diabetic patient easy.” One of the diabetic patients who had benefited from the diabetes program said. The patients of diabetes are expected to eat little fat and sugar, a lot of vegetables and do lot of exercises in order to manage the disease. Dr Simiyu said. A diabetic clinic has been put in place at the coast general hospital to cater for the diabetic patients. ends
