By EMMANUEL BOAZ
There was a large turnout at the kwale high school grounds where the Kenya Defense Force (KDF) was conducting recruitment yesterday.
Joblessness and idleness of the youth in this county caused the large turn up said Hassan Magoti a participant in the exercise.
Lt Col Dk Njema who is in charge of the recruitment that started in Msambweni said that Matters of inconsistencies of names in the identity cards caused many recruits to lose a chance because their names in ID cards never marched those in the birth certificate.
Three women managed to have a ticket into out of the thirteen that were participated in the exercise. Mwanaisha Fikirini and Mealii Ndaro took the first and second position consecutively.
“It was hard because I was firsting and I had not practiced too, but the exercise was conducted competently,” said Binti Rashid one of the recruits that participated.
The recruitment in Kwale, seen as the stronghold of secessionist Mombasa Republican Council, passed off without any incident.
Armed soldiers stood guard as the potential recruits were taken through physical exercises and other medical checks.
Some 2,200 service men and women, 150 cadets and 25 specialists will join the KDF by the end of the month long recruitment across the country.
“The public should rectify their documents and they should also avoid having initials in their registration letters in order to manage a chance in the recruitment,” urgedLt Col DK. Njema.
Tomorrow the recruitment will be conducted in Kinango.

RUSSIAN CONTRIBUTION OF WHEAT FLOUR WORTH US$ 2 MILLION TO HELP WFP FIGHT HUNGER IN KENYA
By EMMANUEL BOAZ
The World Food Programme (WFP) has received a contribution of wheat flour from the Russian Federation worth About Ksh 170 million.
The contribution of Russian federation is to address two major challenges, including drought affected people and refugees.
“this food donation will provided support to over half a million refugees in Kenya that support will be helpful to meet those in demand,” said the WFP representative and county director Ronald Sibanda.
“50% of the contribution will also provide support to drought affected people in two ways that are to help people build resilience for future shocks and where necessary provide an outright relief for people who require support” Mr Sibanda added.
780 metric tons of wheat flour will benefit 2.2 million people mostly in arid and semi arid areas with food insecurity. 87,000 people in arid and semi arid areas will benefit in the aid meant to help respond to drought.
980 metric tones of wheat flour will go out to 78,000 refugees in the country. Over half a million refugees in Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps will benefit from the Programme.
The deputy ambassador of Russia Mr Oleg Vlasov said that Russia federation is taking part actively in Kenya’s relief measures whereby they contributed 1 million dollars last year and they have further increased the amount to 2 million dollars this year.
“There is progression in the contribution for food by the Russian embassy to support population with need of food in order to help them not to suffer from hunger.” Mr Vlasov said.
The permanent secretary in the ministry of state for special programs Mr Andrew Mondoh said that mitigation factors are currently being put in place by the ministry of agriculture, Ministry of livestock and the ministry of arid and semi arid areas to put a long term measure to sort out food insecurity in the country.
“Direct food donation may not provide long term solutions. Long term projects are being put in place; building dams and irrigation programs this will bring more land under irrigation in order not to rely on rain fed agriculture.” The PS said.
Coast province, eastern province, north eastern province Rift Valley province are the provinces that are mostly affected by drought. Some areas of central province are also experiencing the stretch of arid and semi arid experiences.
The democratic relation between the government of Kenya and the government of Russia was spoken about at length with both countries expected to celebrate the 50th anniversary of which the republic of Russia is the second state in the world to recognize kenya after the German democratic republic.
“I hope the relationship will improve in the years to come and we will support to WFP with everything we have” ambassador Vlasov concluded.

HIGH SCHOOL STRIKES ON THE RISE IN COAST PROVINCE.
By EMMANUEL BOAZ
Maandani secondary school students burned down its dorm yesterday at around 9:30 pm when all the 84 boarders were in class undertaking their preps.
“Nothing was savaged from the dorm as it was completely burnt” the head teacher Madam Gharama Getrude said.
“The exact cause of the unrest in the school was not known as the form four students were to do their trial exams on Monday and the form threes to the lower classes were to do the end of term exams, but one of the things that is highly suspected to have caused that was that some of the students did not want exams,” Madam Gharama added.
The head teacher blames the use of mobile phones for the high rate of strikes in high schools as the students use the phones to inform each other about strikes.
Adding to that the education assessment and reaction centre assessor Sebastian Muzungu said that there was a fear in students that the mock will affect their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Schools (KCSE) exams in that if they perform well in the KCSE as opposed to the MOCK, they will be accused of cheating in the exams.
Madam Gharama said that that exams are the ones that are used to assess the students, taste their knowledge, do revision, and a way that students use to prepare to excel.
“Without them doing exams, we can not gauge at which rate they are so we can not assist them as far as results are concerned.” She added.
Furthermore with these trends it will not be easy for us to improve. As long as students take exams they will not perform well and they will fail in the final paper madam Gharama concluded.
Tension and anxiety arouse and the students had to be sent home till the 13th of august when we will be able to ascertain the exact beyond reasonable doubts as to why the students burnt down the Pretoria boys dorm.
Chui dorm of Mazeras high school was also set a blaze at 7:30. efforts to reach the administration were in vain since they ran away after seing the media.
This incidences come in the wake of frequent strikes in Coast province with a lot of strike cases being reported.

CRACKDOWN ON ROAD UNWORTHY VEHICLES
By EMANUEL BOAZ
Transport for many passengers who use the Mombasa - Nairobi highway along Mazeras and Miritini area came to a stand still yesterday as the assistant minister of transport Mr Hassan Joho personally participated in the cracks down exercise that is meant to put away unroad worthy vehicles.
The assistant minister together with the traffic police and the mechanics inspectors conducted inspection on every vehicle that did not meet the threshold to make sure the vehicles were in good shape.
One of the vehicles that did not meet the requirement was a bus belonging to the Horizon coach. The bus did not have a speed governor, the seat belts were not functioning and the lights were not in shape thus considered road unworthy.
The minister kindly asked the bus driver to call the company office and call for another bus in order to continue with their journey because the bus had to be taken to the police station.
The passengers were left stranded because the bus company has only two buses and there was no available vehicle at that moment.
“This is not fair we have paid our fair only to be stranded here. There are other ways of ensuring safety. I propose that this exercise should be conducted from the source before the vehicle leaves the various stations” a passenger of the horizon coach Ms Mariam Juma bitterly said.
The bus driver, who refused to reveal his name, said that he is shocked by the action of the Minister and the mechanical inspectors because in his view the car did not have any faults whatsoever. Furthermore he is not happy with the action taken.
“The public should wake up and avoid locomotives that do not meet the requirements. When you see that the car you are boarding does not have seat belts you should avoid it for your own safety,” Mr Joho said.
Furthermore he called out for citizens to take part in the governments fight to reduce road accidents by reporting cases of road unworthy vehicles and vanderlisation of government property meant for safety.
“The Kenya highway authority is to erect black spot signs at Bonje area the speed limit in such an area is 50 km/h and also inspect if a concrete wall is to be erected along the black spot stretch,” the assistant minister said.
“The crackdown is to be conducted all over the country to ensure safety for all road users.” he added.
“When it comes to traffic driving schools, members of public and the ministry of roads are to work hand in hand in order to make sure the roads accidents are reduced.” The provincial traffic enforcement officer Mr Martin kariuki said.
“The police are doing all they can to make sure the road laws are enforced,” Mr Kariuki said. He also called out for the government to provide more speed guns in order to detect and make sure that the speed limits are kept at normal by all road users.
